Fact Check Analysis

Let's analyze the factual claims in the provided text:

  1. Claim: "There has been a suggestion that because of pricing and design, Apple tends to appeal to kind of a smaller elite rather than that sort of mass customer base."

    • Analysis: This is a subjective claim and reflects a common perception rather than a verifiable fact. Apple products are often perceived as premium due to their pricing and design, which can appeal to a more affluent demographic. However, Apple has a significant market share in various product categories, indicating a broad customer base.
  2. Claim: "Our goal is to make the best personal computers in the world and to make products we are proud to sell and would recommend to our family and friends."

    • Analysis: This is a statement of intent or corporate philosophy rather than a factual claim that can be verified. It reflects Apple's branding and marketing message.
  3. Claim: "What you'll find is our products are usually not premium priced."

    • Analysis: This claim can be contentious. Apple products are often considered premium due to their higher price points compared to many competitors. However, Apple's pricing strategy includes offering products at various price levels, and in some cases, competitors' products with similar specifications can be more expensive. This claim can be partially verified by comparing specific models and configurations.
  4. Claim: "A lot of people have been doing that and saying that now for the last 18 months."
    • Analysis: This is a vague claim about public perception and cannot be easily verified without specific references to reviews or analyses from the last 18 months. It suggests a trend or shift in perception but lacks concrete data.

Overall, the text contains a mix of subjective statements and claims that would require specific data or comparisons to verify fully.

One more question. I think we're going to call it a day. Yes, ma'am. I'm Molly White from CNET. I have a question actually about market share, which is sort of what we're getting at. There has been a suggestion that because of pricing and design, Apple tends to appeal to kind of a smaller elite rather than that sort of mass customer base. And so I guess once and for all, is it your goal to overtake the PC in market share? You know, I can tell you what our goal is. Our goal is to make the best personal computers in the world and to make products we are proud to sell and would recommend to our family and friends. And we want to do that at the lowest prices we can. But I have to tell you, there's some stuff in our industry that we wouldn't be proud to ship, that we wouldn't be proud to recommend to our family and friends. And we can't do it. We just can't ship junk. So there are thresholds that we can't cross because of who we are. But we want to make the best personal computers in the industry. And we think there's a very significant slice of the industry that wants that too. And what you'll find is our products are usually not premium priced. You go and price out our competitor's products and you add the features that you have to add to make them useful, and you'll find in some cases they are more expensive than our products. The difference is we don't offer stripped down lousy products. You know, we just don't offer categories of products like that. But if you move those aside and compare us with our competitors, I think we compare pretty favorably. And a lot of people have been doing that and saying that now for the last 18 months.
